Botox® and Xeomin®

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Many lines are caused by making the same expression thousands of times. Eventually a crease forms in the skin. Common sites for expression lines are found between the brows, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes

Is it safe?

Yes. It has been used for over twenty years on thousands of patients to treat many neurological and eye disorders as well as reduction of wrinkles. Common neuromodulator brand names include Botox® and Xeomin®.

How does it work?

Botulinum toxin is a medicine that is injected into the muscles and has a local effect of reducing muscle action. The untreated facial muscles contract in the normal way, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. The aim is to break the habit of frowning.

How long is the treatment?

Treatment does not take very long – usually about twenty minutes. The first effects start to appear after about three days and the complete effect is visible in two weeks.

How long does it last?

The effects of the treatment last three months. Clinical studies indicate that treatments last longer over time, meaning you should require fewer injections in the future; however, this varies from patient to patient.

What areas can be treated?
  • Upper face – Frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet and brow lift.
  • Jaw line sculpting – To give a defined jawline.

Excessive Sweating
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can occur in up to 1% of the population. Hyperhidrosis can be embarrassing and also seriously affect social, professional, and intimate relationships. Botulinum toxin is a very effective treatment for excessive sweating affecting the armpits. When small doses are injected into the skin, it prevents the glands from producing sweat. The effects last for three to six months. The cosmetic procedure takes around twenty minutes. The reduced sweating is first noticeable after three days and the maximum benefit from injections occurs after approximately two weeks.

How many Neuromodulator Treatments will I need and how long until I expect my full results?

Results can be seen in as little as a week. Total treatment results will be 10-14 days from treatment day. Further upkeep will be needed an average of 3-4 months, depending on the effect you are looking for. Keeping the muscles relaxed may help to keep the wrinkles softer, or remove them altogether.

How Much does it hurt and what should I expect during my Neuromodulator procedure?

A small needle is used to administer the injections, so most people have some to no discomfort. Depending on your pain tolerance, ice or numbing cream may be applied at least 15 min before the cosmetic procedure. You must arrive early to have these provided at no additional cost. The nurse will discuss your expectations and offer recommendations on placement, dosage and possible touch ups in 10-14 days. If you have never been treated, a conservative approach is used to allow the nurse to see how your muscles respond. The area is cleaned with alcohol, marked with a removable cream pencil, and as you are asked to relax, the injections will be administered.

How do I care for it after Neuromodulator treatment?

Post treatment it is important to not increase your core body temp or circulation (exercise, over heating in the sun, etc.). Do not lay down, rub the areas for 4 hours, and no laser, chemical peels or Microderm for 2 weeks.
